On Saturday night, Russian armed forces launched ballistic missile strikes on the Ukrainian capital, causing fires and damage to city infrastructure, local authorities reported.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia attacked Kyiv with nine Iskander-M ballistic missiles from the Rostov and Kursk regions, along with 62 unmanned aerial vehicles. By morning, four missiles and 50 drones had been shot down or suppressed by air defense systems, while five ballistic missiles and 12 attack drones had reached their targets at 11 locations. The locations of the targets hit were not specified.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported strong explosions in the capital and that the city was under attack by ballistic missiles. The State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported nine casualties in the Desnyansky, Dniprovsky, and Darnytskyi districts, three of whom were hospitalized. A fire broke out in a non-residential building at one location, and windows in residential buildings and cars were also damaged.
In the Dnipropetrovsk region, according to regional administration head Vladislav Gaivanenko, two people were killed and seven others were wounded in Russian military shelling on Saturday night. The shelling was recorded in the Sinelnyky district, causing fires and damaging apartment buildings, private houses, outbuildings, a store, and a car. Russian forces continued to strike Nikopol.
According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, 121 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones were shot down overnight in Russia. Nine drones were shot down in the Moscow region, seven of which were heading toward the capital. Drone strikes were also recorded over the Rostov, Volgograd, Bryansk, Kaluga, Smolensk, Belgorod, Voronezh, Leningrad, Novgorod, Ryazan, Tambov, Tver, and Tula regions. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported that seven drones were shot down while approaching the capital. Authorities closed the airports of Volgograd, Gelendzhik, and Yaroslavl to ensure flight safety.
Meanwhile, in London, the leaders of the "coalition of the willing" countries discussed increasing pressure on Moscow, long-term financing for Ukraine, and support for its defense industry. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and King Charles III. Zelenskyy announced his intention to gain access to the frozen assets of the Russian Central Bank in Europe by early next year and proposed that his allies temporarily transfer Patriot air defense systems to Kyiv.
French President Emmanuel Macron announced plans to supply Mirage fighter jets and Aster missiles to Ukraine, as well as to conduct new training programs.
US President Donald Trump expressed hope for China's assistance in resolving the war in Ukraine during his upcoming meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. He said sanctions imposed on Russia are putting pressure on the economy, but he looks forward to working with China to resolve the conflict.
The Ukrainian President emphasized that sanctions are one of the most painful for the Russian leadership and have a visible impact on the domestic economic situation.
