The Tajik national team continues its successful performance at the Third Asian Youth Games in Bahrain. Over the past few days of competition, the team won nine new medals in mixed martial arts (MMA) and taekwondo: two gold and seven bronze.
The main heroes of October 25th were Fazliddin Khalilov and Umardzhoni Umed. Fazliddin Khalilov became the amateur MMA champion in the 55 kg weight class, bringing home the gold medal for the national team. Umardzhoni Umed won the second gold medal, winning the 70 kg weight class in the same sport.
The team's bronze medals were won by: Mehrona Kalandarbekova (55 kg), Markhabo Boboeva (60 kg), Umar Sharifov (50 kg), Muhammad Saidzoda (60 kg), Osimi Begmurodzoda (60 kg), Abubakr Bakhromov (75 kg) and Muso Ibrokhimzoda (80 kg).
In addition to MMA, taekwondo athlete Abdujafari Bakhodur added a bronze medal to the team's tally in the 55 kg weight class. Earlier, taekwondo athlete Jonibek Nigmatov won a silver medal in the over 73 kg weight class, losing 0-2 to South Korea's Simok Eom in the final. Abubakr Turaev won his country's first medal, winning bronze in kurash (65 kg).
This brings the Tajik team's total medal count to 12: two gold, one silver, and nine bronze. Following successful days of competition, the team climbed to 14th place in the overall medal standings, overtaking the teams of Jordan and Bahrain.
The leaders of the medal standings are China – 69 medals (34 gold, 24 silver, 11 bronze), Uzbekistan – 28 (14-5-9), Thailand – 30 (13-12-5), Iran – 37 (9-9-19), Kazakhstan – 35 (9-8-18), the Philippines – 17 (6-5-6), the UAE – 13 (5-4-4), Chinese Taipei – 21 (4-6-11), India – 24 (3-10-11), Saudi Arabia – 12 (3-4-5).
