Tajikistan and Belarus discussed ways to deepen trade, economic and agricultural cooperation within the framework of a bilateral meeting held in Dushanbe on the sidelines of the 10th meeting of the Ministers of Agriculture of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization member states. This was reported by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Tajikistan.
The negotiations were held by the co-chairs of the Intergovernmental Commission of Tajikistan and Belarus – the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Tajikistan Kurbon Hakimzoda and the Minister of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Belarus Yuri Gorlov.
The parties discussed in detail the preparations for the 18th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission of Tajikistan and Belarus on Trade and Economic Cooperation, as well as the 37th meeting of the Ministers of Agriculture of the Commonwealth of Independent States, which are scheduled for September 17–20 this year in Dushanbe.
The key topics of the meeting included the creation of joint ventures for meat and milk processing, supplies of breeding cattle for meat and dairy production, expansion of Tajik dried fruit exports to the Belarusian market, and development of cooperation in agricultural machinery. In particular, measures were discussed to increase the production potential of Agrotechservice OJSC in Gissar in the direction of assembling tractors, GS-5 grain harvesters, and other equipment.
The parties also paid attention to the creation of new fruit and vegetable processing industries, student and trainee exchanges, increasing the number of scholarships for Tajik citizens in Belarusian universities, and promoting joint initiatives in the fields of horticulture, seed production, viticulture, poultry farming, climate change, and phytosanitary protection.
In addition, during the meeting, issues of increasing trade turnover, attracting investment, expanding bilateral cooperation in the fields of education and healthcare, stimulating business activity and accelerating the creation of the Trade House of Tajikistan in Minsk were discussed.
As the parties noted, the 18th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission will become an important platform for signing new bilateral agreements with the participation of representatives of the private sector.
