US President Donald Trump has promised to sue The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), the media holding News Corp., and the holding's owner Rupert Murdoch in the near future in connection with a publication he called slanderous. The head of the White House reported this on his page on the social network Truth Social.
Earlier, the WSJ published an article about a greeting card that Trump allegedly gave to financier Jeffrey Epstein for his 50th birthday in 2003. According to the publication, Epstein's girlfriend Ghislaine Maxwell prepared an album of letters from friends for him, including a letter signed "Donald." The WSJ claims that the card contains an "obscene" drawing of a naked woman, made in marker, and accompanying text with provocative content.
In response, the US president said he had never written such letters or drawn such images. “I have never painted a picture in my life. I don’t draw women. That’s not my language. That’s not my words,” he said, warning the newspaper of a possible lawsuit if it was republished.
Jeffrey Epstein, an investment banker, was convicted in 2008 of running a prostitution ring and sexually abusing minors. He was re-arrested in 2019 and charged with trafficking women, including minors, but died in prison shortly after. His girlfriend, Ghislaine Maxwell, is serving a lengthy prison sentence for her role in the crimes.
In the US, political and public debates continue around the declassification of Epstein case materials. At the same time, no evidence has been presented of Donald Trump's involvement in the financier's crimes.
