A meeting with the official delegation of the Khatlon region of the Republic of Tajikistan was held at the Industrial Development Center of the Leningrad Region. This was reported by the press service of the head of the Khatlon region.
The meeting was opened by Konstantin Zagaynov, Deputy Head of the Department of Industrial Policy and Innovation of the Committee for Economic Development and Investment Activity of the Leningrad Region. In his opening remarks, he emphasized that the development of industrial cooperation and the exchange of experience between regions is an important area of the subject's foreign economic activity.
The delegation of Khatlon region was headed by the Chairman of the Executive Authority of the region, Said Davlatali. He presented the economic potential of the region and outlined key areas of possible cooperation, primarily in the field of agriculture.
According to him, the Khatlon region annually produces more than 2 million tons of vegetables and fruits, up to 100 thousand tons of raw cotton, about 2 million pieces of cattle hides, as well as wool from more than 3 million heads of sheep. At the same time, the share of Russian investment in the region's economy does not exceed 10%.
As Davlatali noted, a successful example of cooperation was the allocation of 2,000 hectares of land in the Khatlon region for cotton cultivation by one of the companies in the Leningrad region. He emphasized that this area has high potential for expansion.
During the meeting, Leningrad Region enterprises presented their export projects to members of the Tajik delegation. The greatest interest was aroused by proposals in the field of construction, logistics and equipment of warehouse infrastructure – taking into account that two economic zones operate in Khatlon Region, and there is also a border with Afghanistan.
The issue of supplies of peat fertilizers, which are of interest to the agricultural sector of Tajikistan, was also raised.

"The Leningrad Region is interested in actively developing partnerships with the regions of Central Asia. The Khatlon Region is one of the leading agricultural and industrial centers of Tajikistan, and we see prospects for expanding economic cooperation," the Committee for Economic Development of the region emphasized.
