Pakistani authorities have nominated US President Donald Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, noting his key role in resolving the crisis with India, Tengrinews.kz reports.
This was stated in an official statement by the Pakistani government, published on Saturday, June 21, on the social network X.
"At a time of heightened regional tensions, President Trump has demonstrated strategic thinking and outstanding statesmanship by engaging in active diplomatic dialogue with both Islamabad and New Delhi," the publication says.
It is noted that this made it possible to reduce the intensity of the rapidly developing conflict, achieve a ceasefire and prevent a full-scale war between the two nuclear powers, with potentially catastrophic consequences for millions of people in the region and beyond.
The intervention "was evidence of his genuine peacekeeping role and his desire to resolve conflicts through dialogue," the authorities said.
"The Government of Pakistan also acknowledges and appreciates President Trump's sincere offers to help resolve the long-standing dispute between India and Pakistan over Jammu and Kashmir, an issue that remains at the core of regional instability," the statement said.
President Trump's leadership in the 2025 Pakistan-India crisis clearly demonstrates "the continuity of his course of pragmatic diplomacy and effective peacekeeping."
Islamabad expressed hope that the American leader's efforts will continue to contribute to stability both in the region and around the world, especially against the backdrop of the current crises in the Middle East, including the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza and the escalating situation around Iran.
Recall that on May 10, the head of the White House said that India and Pakistan had agreed on a "complete and immediate" ceasefire. According to him, this happened with the mediation of the United States.
Relations between the nuclear powers sharply worsened in late April after a terrorist attack in Indian Kashmir that killed 26 people. India declared an "anti-terrorist operation" and launched several strikes against Pakistan – at the time, New Delhi claimed that it was only targeting "terrorist infrastructure" and not military facilities.
Pakistan then launched a military operation against India. Islamabad reported that it had carried out retaliatory strikes on two dozen Indian targets, including a missile depot.
