Tajikistan has expressed support for the initiative to hold the Open Eurasian Film Award, which will become a significant platform for demonstrating the cultural and spiritual values of the participating countries. This was announced by the director of the Tajikfilm film studio, Makhmadsaid Shohiyon, on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), TASS reports.
"This is very timely and important, since for many years our region has not had such a large-scale cinematic event," Shohiyon noted, emphasizing the prospects for the development and expansion of the award. In his opinion, the Eurasian Film Award will become a prestigious platform uniting the peoples of the Eurasian countries.
In addition, the director of Tajikfilm proposed creating a special platform within the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) to facilitate the distribution of films produced in the CIS countries. According to Shokhiyon, this will solve the long-standing problem of limited access to each other's films and expand the audience, including in foreign countries. He noted the need for joint efforts to promote film products and organize effective screening channels.
Among the achievements of the Tajik film studio is the annual release of about six feature films, ten documentaries, as well as short and animated films. Five films created in Tajikistan will be presented at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Film Festival in China. The film "In Search of Truth" recently won the prize for best script at the festival in Bishkek.
The Eurasian Film Award initiative was presented in April 2025 and is positioned as an analogue of the Oscars. The idea of establishing the award in 2022 was proposed by director Nikita Mikhalkov. As part of the award, the best film will be awarded a prize of one million dollars, and the winners in other nominations will receive 250 thousand dollars each. Each winner will be awarded a statuette called the "Diamond Butterfly".
In addition, the Tajikfilm studio plans to expand cooperation with Russian partners. In particular, during the SPIEF, the intention to conclude an agreement with the Lenfilm studio for the implementation of joint film projects was announced.
"We will soon have a meeting with our colleagues from Lenfilm, we will study their experience and discuss prospects for cooperation," Shohiyon said. He also recalled that the film "The Path of Wrath" was shot together with the Russian studio "Lendok", the editing of which has already been completed. The presentation of this film is planned during the Second International Film Festival "Toji Somon" in Dushanbe, which will be held from October 15 to 20.
In addition, at meetings with Rossotrudnichestvo and the Russian Cinema Fund, the possibilities of new joint projects were discussed.
The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum will be held from 18 to 21 June 2025 under the theme "Common Values – the Basis for Growth in a Multipolar World".
