Tajikistan's Temur Rakhimov has reached the 1/8 finals of the World Judo Championships, which is taking place in the Hungarian capital. This was reported by the Tajikistan Judo Federation.
In the over 100 kg weight category, Rakhimov, one of the country's leading heavyweights, started from the second round, where he met Lee Seung-yub from South Korea. The fight was tense and ended in favor of the Tajik athlete: his opponent received three warnings (shido), which, according to judo rules, automatically brings victory to the opponent.
In the 1/8 finals, Rakhimov will face the winner of the match between Movli Borchashvili (Austria) and Eric Abramov (Germany).
The World Championship in Budapest brought together the strongest judokas on the planet. Tajikistan is represented at the tournament by nine athletes. On the second day of the competition, Emomali Nurali and Obid Dzhebov won silver and bronze medals respectively in the up to 66 kg category. Another representative of the team, Jahongir Majidov, took seventh place in the up to 100 kg weight category.
Tajikistan's sports leadership has high hopes for the successful performance of its judokas, especially in anticipation of major international competitions and the 2028 Olympics.
