NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said he has no information about the US's intentions to withdraw its military forces from Europe, Interfax reports.
"I am not aware at the moment of any US plans to withdraw troops," he said at a press conference in Brussels.
He recalled that the US expects its European NATO allies and Canada to increase their defense spending, noting that some members of the alliance currently spend less on defense than they could. "We expect all these indicators to increase, if possible, to close all the gaps," Rutte said.
In February, US Vice President J.D. Vance said NATO countries must increase defense spending and thereby allow Washington to focus on solving problems in East Asia.
During a visit to NATO headquarters in February, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said Europe must take control of its own security, including by providing assistance to Ukraine.
In April, NBC reported, citing US and European government officials, that the US Department of Defense was discussing the option of recalling up to 10,000 troops from Romania and Poland.
