In anticipation of the state visit of the Chinese President, the official publication of the Russian government, Rossiyskaya Gazeta, published an article by Xi Jinping entitled “Lessons from the Past for the Sake of the Future.”
The Chinese leader writes that the world anti-fascist war is evidence of the military brotherhood, mutual assistance and support of the peoples of China and Russia. 80 years ago, the countries of the world, including China and the USSR, united in the name of fighting against a common enemy and won a victory. Xi Jinping notes that today it is important to preserve the historical memory of those events. According to him, China and the Soviet Union took the brunt of the blow from militaristic Japan and Nazi Germany, and made a decisive contribution to the Victory in the world anti-fascist war. He emphasized that attempts to distort the historical facts about World War II and deny its results are doomed to failure.
Xi Jinping points out that this year marks the 80th anniversary of the founding of the UN. The creation of the United Nations was, in his opinion, the most important decision taken by the world community at the end of World War II. China and the Soviet Union were among the first to sign the UN Charter. According to the Chinese leader, the more complex the international situation becomes, the more important it is to protect and ensure the authority of the UN, firmly uphold the world order based on international law and the basic norms of international relations based on the purposes and principles of the UN Charter.
Speaking about Russian-Chinese relations, he writes that resolute support for each other on issues affecting the core interests and concerns of the two countries is a constant for China and Russia. In his assessment, the two countries are significant powers that make a constructive contribution to maintaining global strategic stability and improving global governance. Both sides should jointly resist any attempts to sow discord in the friendship and mutual trust between China and Russia, without being distracted by short-term issues and opportunistic situations. Paying tribute to the events of 80 years ago, he calls on the two countries to continue to take resolute measures to protect their sovereignty, security and development interests.
