The Committee for Religious Affairs, Regulation of Celebrations and Rituals of the Republic of Tajikistan warned citizens of the country against attempts to make a pilgrimage to Mecca and other holy places in Saudi Arabia without official permission.
As the department reports with reference to the Ministry of Interior of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, from April 29 until the end of the Hajj season, strict penalties will be imposed on persons violating the established rules.
Thus, for illegal entry into sacred places – Mecca, Mina, Arafat and Muzdalifah – a fine of 20 thousand Saudi riyals (about 5.4 thousand US dollars) is provided. In case of repeated violation, the fine is doubled.
In addition, organizers of illegal trips – those who facilitate visas, provide transportation, accommodation or other assistance – will be fined up to 100,000 riyals (about $27,000). In some cases, they face imprisonment.
If facts of illegal presence in holy places are revealed, pilgrims will be deported and deprived of the right to enter Saudi Arabia for up to 10 years. Vehicles used for transportation are subject to confiscation based on a court decision.
The Committee on Religious Affairs of Tajikistan has urged citizens of the country to perform the Hajj only within the official quotas and according to established rules.
