Tajikistan has approved a hunting quota for rare and protected species for 2026–2027. The corresponding government decree was issued.
According to the document, the following quotas have been established to regulate the use of animal species listed in the Red Data Book of the Republic of Tajikistan: Marco Polo sheep (Ovis ammon polii) – 132 heads, markhor (Capra falconeri) – 24 heads, Bukhara mountain sheep (urial) (Ovis aries bochariensis) – 18 heads, and Tien Shan brown bear (Ursus arctos isabellinus) – 10 heads. Brown bear hunting is permitted only in cases of threat to citizens or damage to the population.
The quota period for Marco Polo sheep, markhor goat, and Bukhara mountain sheep (urial) is set from September 1, 2026, to March 1, 2027. The quota period for Tien Shan brown bears is set from September 1, 2026, to August 31, 2027.
The Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan is tasked with issuing licenses and exercising state control over their use.
The Customs Service under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan is instructed to exercise control over the import and export of wild animals on the basis of this order and licenses issued by the Committee for Environmental Protection.
In addition, the Committee for Environmental Protection, together with the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan, the State Committee for National Security of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Customs Service under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Forestry Agency under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan, as well as the executive bodies of state power of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region, regions, cities and districts, is obliged to ensure control over the targeted use of established quotas.
Information on the results of the monitoring is to be submitted to the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan in March and September 2027.
