Afghan forces launched a major operation against Pakistan along the Durand Line, claiming to have captured several Pakistani outposts. Islamabad claims the attack was repelled, and dozens of Afghan soldiers were killed, according to RBC.
Afghan government deputy spokesman Hamdullah Fitrat stated that Afghan forces had captured one base and 19 Pakistani checkpoints along the border. He said 55 Pakistani troops were killed.
Earlier, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid reported that Afghan forces had captured 15 Pakistani outposts. He noted that a "large number" of Pakistani soldiers were killed in the operation, with some captured.
Previously, sources told an Afghan television channel that the Taliban had captured 20 Pakistani outposts. A source in the Afghan armed forces told Al Jazeera that 10 Pakistani soldiers were killed and 13 outposts were captured.
Pakistan's Geo News, citing security sources, reported that Taliban attempts to attack Pakistani security outposts using drones failed, with all drones shot down. Security officials also stated that 44 Afghan troops were killed along the Pakistan-Afghan border following "unprovoked cross-border attacks on Pakistani positions."
Pakistani forces are currently targeting civilian areas in Dand Aw Patan in Paktia province in eastern Afghanistan, with many families forced to flee their homes, according to reports.
