On June 19, 2025, a conference dedicated to the 18th anniversary of the adoption of the Law "On the regulation of celebrations and rituals in the Republic of Tajikistan" was held at the Imam Azam Islamic Institute of Tajikistan and the Center for Islamic Studies under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan. The event was attended by experts, specialists and representatives of the public, NIAT "Khovar" reports.

Director of the Center for Islamic Studies Abdurakhim Kholikzoda noted that the adoption of this law gradually streamlined the holding of various events in the country, improved the quality of life of the population and created favorable conditions for organizing celebrations and rituals.
Over the past 18 years, the law has been supplemented and adjusted several times (in 2008, 2010, 2017 and 2021), which made it possible to take into account the wishes of citizens and eliminate identified shortcomings.
Before the law was passed, traditional holidays and ceremonies in Tajikistan often involved a great deal of wasteful spending, ostentatious events, superstitions and excessive spending, which had a negative impact on the population’s standard of living. Some families took out loans to hold expensive weddings and funerals.
Head of State Emomali Rahmon emphasized the importance of systematizing national and religious customs to reduce excessive spending and increase the effectiveness of state poverty reduction programs.
Today, this law is considered an important tool for protecting national culture, combating superstition and fanaticism, and raising the spiritual and socio-economic standard of living in the country.
Let us recall that on June 20, 2024, the President of Tajikistan signed a new version of the law “On the regulation of celebrations and ceremonies”, aimed at strengthening traditional values and preventing excesses in the conduct of ceremonies and festive events.
