International Children's Day is celebrated annually on June 1 in many countries around the world. It was established in 1949, and since 1950 has been widely celebrated as a symbol of commitment to children's rights.
The basis for the legal protection of children in international practice is the Convention on the Rights of the Child, adopted by the UN General Assembly on November 20, 1989. The document establishes basic principles, including the right to life, the prohibition of discrimination, the priority of the interests of the child and the right to be heard.
The Republic of Tajikistan ratified this Convention in 1993. In addition, other important international legal acts were recognized and ratified, including the International Labour Organization Convention on the Elimination of the Worst Forms of Child Labor.
Domestic legislation, including the Constitution of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Law on the Protection of the Rights of the Child, have been brought into line with international standards and provide comprehensive legal protection for children throughout the country.
