The US Department of Defense announced the delivery of additional defensive weapons to Ukraine on the direct instructions of President Donald Trump. This was stated in a statement by Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell, published on the official website of the defense department.
“At President Trump’s direction, the Department of Defense is sending additional defensive weapons to Ukraine so that the Ukrainian people can defend themselves while we work to secure lasting peace and stop the killing,” a Pentagon spokesman said.
Earlier, the US administration temporarily suspended deliveries of a number of critical weapons, including Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems, due to the need to review its own stockpiles. At the same time, according to analysts, the shortage of air defense systems and high-precision munitions could weaken Ukraine's defense capability against the backdrop of increased massive shelling from Russia.
As reported, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held a telephone conversation with Donald Trump, during which they discussed the issue of deliveries of critical weapons.
Politico, citing sources, previously reported that the resumption of military aid is being discussed at talks between US Special Envoy Keith Kellogg and Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, which are taking place this week and next.
On July 7, President Trump confirmed the decision to transfer weapons to the Ukrainian side, stating that the United States will continue to support Kyiv “in order to achieve sustainable peace.”
