Russia has officially recognized the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan. This was reported by TASS with reference to the Russian Foreign Ministry.
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirms," the diplomatic agency said, commenting on the information about the recognition of the state.
Earlier, TASS reported that the Afghan flag introduced by the Taliban was hung over the embassy in Moscow for the first time since the movement came to power in 2021.
On July 1, the new Ambassador of Afghanistan to Russia, Gul Hasan, arrived in Moscow; on July 3, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko received copies of his credentials.
On April 17, the Supreme Court of Russia granted the administrative claim of the Prosecutor General to suspend the ban on the activities of the Taliban movement in the Russian Federation. As noted by the Russian Foreign Ministry, the removal of the terrorist status from the Taliban opens the way to establishing a full-fledged partnership with Kabul, carried out in the interests of the Russian and Afghan peoples.
