Heavy rains are expected in Tajikistan from May 31 to June 2 this year, which poses a threat of mudflows in a number of regions of the country. This was reported by the Committee for Emergency Situations and Civil Defense under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan.
According to the Hydrometeorology Agency, adverse weather conditions are forecast in the foothill and mountainous regions of the Republican Subordination, the Sughd Region, as well as in certain western regions of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region.
In this regard, the Committee strongly recommends that residents promptly clear irrigation ditches, canals and mudflow ditches near their homes of garbage, fallen leaves, sand and gravel. This is necessary to ensure unimpeded water flow and prevent possible flooding of garden plots and residential buildings.
Drivers are advised to exercise extra caution when driving on mountain roads during periods of heavy precipitation, not to exceed the speed limit, strictly maintain a distance between vehicles and avoid sudden maneuvers that could lead to traffic accidents.
In addition, the Committee appeals to parents not to leave minors unattended. Mudflows can occur suddenly and pose a serious threat to the life and health of children, especially if they are near riverbeds or in potentially dangerous areas.
In emergency situations, citizens are asked to call the Committee's emergency services at 112.
