The National Bank of Kazakhstan has warned about new schemes by criminals aimed at gaining access to personal data or stealing money from bank accounts, Tengrinews.kz reports.
The state regulator noted that there has been an increase in cases of theft of bank card data through online games.
"The attackers, posing as company employees or game administrators, request bank card details (card numbers, CVV codes, and SMS codes) under the pretext of providing rewards to children," the report says.
In this regard, the National Bank recommended that parents conduct an explanatory conversation with their children about the inadmissibility of transferring personal information, bank card data, and confirmation codes to third parties.
"In order to prevent online fraud, it is recommended to install parental controls on children's mobile devices," the message states.
The National Bank also called on Kazakhstanis to exercise caution and not to transmit confidential information, not to respond to suspicious messages, and to be sure to double-check the authenticity of incoming requests.
"You should refrain from following dubious links, opening unknown files and installing remote access applications such as HopToDesk, RustDesk, RUDesktop, AnyDesk, TeamViewer and similar programs," the message emphasizes.
It is also worth reminding that the National Bank does not service accounts of individuals, does not provide loans to citizens, does not provide legal services, and does not conduct monetary settlements with the population.
"To avoid fraudulent actions by third parties, when receiving calls from alleged employees of government agencies or the National Bank of Kazakhstan, it is recommended to interrupt the conversation and, if necessary, call the official number of the government agency yourself."
In addition, the National Bank reported that if you encounter fraudulent actions, it is strongly recommended to contact law enforcement agencies with a corresponding statement. Also, to receive advice, you should contact the National Bank's contact center at the short number 1477.
Earlier, Deputy Chairman of the National Bank Berik Sholpankulov commented on reports of numerous complaints from citizens on social networks about unexplained withdrawals of money from accounts in bank mobile applications.
