The forum "Adaptation and Resilience to Glacial Hazards" was held on May 29 in Dushanbe in a hybrid format with the participation of representatives of relevant departments of Central Asian countries, international organizations and scientific structures. This was reported by the Committee for Emergency Situations and Civil Defense under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan.
The event was held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel as part of the International High-Level Conference on Glacier Conservation, which is taking place in the capital of Tajikistan from May 29 to 31. The forum was organized by ESCAP (United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific), the Committee on Emergency Situations of the Republic of Tajikistan, the North Eurasian Climate Center, the UN Office in Tajikistan, and the Asia-Pacific Centre for the Development of Disaster Information Management (APDIM).

The Chairman of the Tatarstan Emergency Situations Committee, Colonel General Rajabali Rahmonali, delivered a welcoming speech. In his address, he emphasized the relevance of strengthening regional cooperation in the context of growing climate threats, in particular the melting of glaciers and the risks associated with it.
The key objective of the forum is to develop approaches to adaptation and increased resilience to climate risks, especially in vulnerable economic sectors such as agriculture, energy and environmental protection in mountainous areas. The discussions included presentation of climate profiles for Tajikistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, and assessment of the impact of glacial hazards on food and energy security in the region.
The participants focused on innovative solutions such as the Impact Based Forecasting Tool (IBF Tool), artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, and the presentation of the ESCAP Disaster Risk and Resilience Portal. The forum also served as a platform for discussions on the Regional Action Plan for Sand and Dust Storms and the UN Early Warning for All initiative.
During the event, a resolution was discussed, adopted at the initiative of Tajikistan at the 81st session of ESCAP, concerning the expansion of cooperation in the field of sustainable water resources management and climate change.
The organisers emphasised the need for a comprehensive approach to managing cascading climate risks and coordinated actions within the framework of a regional partnership for sustainable development and prevention of climate disasters in Central Asia.
