Two people were killed and several were injured after a crowd of Palestinians stormed a UN World Food Programme warehouse in the Gaza Strip, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing CNN.
A mob of hungry Palestinians stormed a United Nations warehouse in central Gaza on Wednesday, leaving at least two people dead and several injured.
"Crowds of hungry people stormed the WFP Al-Ghafari warehouse in Deir al-Balah, Central Gaza, in search of food that had been pre-positioned for distribution, with initial reports indicating that two people were killed and several injured in the tragic incident," the World Food Programme (WFP) said in a statement.
It is unclear what caused the deaths and injuries. The WFP said it was working to establish the exact circumstances, but stressed that the tragedy reflected "alarming and deteriorating conditions on the ground" directly linked to the blockade of humanitarian aid.
The warehouse contained vital supplies, including flour, intended for systematic aid distribution, which were now at risk due to this desperate act.
Israel's 11-week blockade of humanitarian aid has left Gaza, home to more than 2 million people, in a state of famine. The first aid arrived in the enclave only last week.
"Gaza needs an immediate increase in food aid. This is the only way to reassure people that they will not go hungry," the WFP said.
Another incident the day before erupted in chaos at a humanitarian aid distribution point in the Gaza Strip run by a controversial US-backed group, with thousands of desperate Palestinians rushing to receive food supplies as Israeli troops fired warning shots into the air and the US contractors manning the site briefly retreated.
A huge crowd of people rushed towards the objects, tore down some of the fences and climbed over the barriers intended to control the flow of people.
Palestinian health officials said one person was shot dead and 48 were wounded in Tuesday's incident.
The Israel Defense Forces said its forces had fired warning shots in an area outside the compound and that the situation was under control. They denied firing from aircraft towards the site.
More than 54,000 Gazans have been killed since Israel's war in the enclave began 600 days ago, the Palestinian Health Ministry said.
Earlier it was reported that Switzerland would check the activities of the organization distributing humanitarian aid in Gaza. This fund intends to distribute humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip on behalf of the UN. Two complaints were filed against it.
