The Football Federation of Tajikistan organized a festive festival in New York in honor of the first official World Football Day, approved by the UN General Assembly resolution. This was reported by the press service of the Football Federation of Tajikistan.
The event took place in one of the largest cities in the world, New York, and became part of an international celebration aimed at popularizing football as a universal tool for peace, unity and development.
The festival was made possible by the initiative of the President of the Football Federation of Tajikistan, the President of the Central Asian Football Association (CAFA), the Chairman of the Majlisi Milli Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan, as well as the Chairman of the city of Dushanbe, respected Rustam Emomali. It was on his proposal that in December 2023 the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution declaring May 25 as World Football Day.
It is noted that the festive football festival became a vivid manifestation of public support for the initiative of Tajikistan and demonstrated the power of sports in strengthening intercultural dialogue. Participants of the festival included representatives of various countries, young football players, diplomats, and members of the Tajik diaspora.
As previously reported, a ceremony dedicated to the first World Football Day was held at the UN Headquarters on May 22. The ceremony was attended and addressed by the respected Rustam Emomali. In his speech, he emphasized that football, as the most popular game in the world, carries such key values as fair play, team spirit and mutual respect, which are fully in line with the principles of the United Nations.
According to the Tajik side, the establishment of World Football Day will become an additional incentive for expanding international sports cooperation and involving young people in an active lifestyle.
