As part of the EU's global sanctions regime for human rights violations, another 28 individuals and legal entities from Russia will be added to the sanctions list.
In addition, the EU official reported on the planned application of sanctions against Russia for the use of chemical weapons. These measures have not yet been approved by the EU Council and their discussion is only planned, so details about the timing and scope of the new sanctions are not yet known.
According to von der Leyen, who spoke in Tirana at the European Political Community summit, the new sanctions package will include restrictive measures against the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines, adding new names to the blacklist of Russian “shadow fleet” vessels, lowering the oil price ceiling, and additional sanctions against the Russian financial sector.
"We must increase the pressure on President Putin until he is ready for peace," the head of the European Commission said.
