Tajikistan plans to create its own logistics center in the Iranian port of Chabahar with the participation of national entrepreneurs. This was announced at the 17th meeting of the Joint Commission on Economic, Trade, Scientific and Technical Cooperation of Tajikistan and Iran, which was held on May 5-6 in the city of Shiraz, the press service of the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Tajikistan reports.
During a visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran, a delegation of the Ministry of Transport of Tajikistan headed by Deputy Minister Shoista Saidmurodzoda got acquainted with the capabilities of the port of Chabahar, located on the coast of the Sea of Oman and the Indian Ocean. The Tajik side held talks with representatives of the Iranian Ministry of Transport, the leadership of the Organization of Ports and Maritime Shipping of the IRI, as well as the administration of the Free Economic Zone of Chabahar.

The parties agreed that the Tajik side will develop a project for the construction of a logistics center and present it to the Iranian side in the first half of 2025. If the project is approved, Iran will prepare a draft cooperation agreement within a month, providing for the provision of state preferences to the Tajik side.
As noted by the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Tajikistan, the creation of a logistics center in Chabahar will open direct access to the Indian Ocean for Tajikistan within the framework of the international multimodal transport corridor "China-Tajikistan-Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Turkey-Europe". This will create new opportunities for diversifying the republic's economy and expanding foreign economic relations with the regions of Asia, Oceania, the Persian Gulf countries and East Africa.
The topic of the Tajik side's use of the Chabahar and Bandar Abbas ports was raised back in May 2022 during the official visit of the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon to Iran. In November 2023, the parties signed a memorandum of cooperation in the field of cargo transit through Chabahar, and in January 2025, a corresponding cooperation program was approved between the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Organization of Ports and River Shipping of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
