A sharp increase in air temperature to abnormal values is expected in a number of regions of Tajikistan from May 15 to 17, and a deterioration in air quality due to dust storms is predicted from May 17 to 19. This was reported by the Committee for Emergency Situations and Civil Defense (CES) under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, citing the country's Hydrometeorology Agency.
According to experts, in the valleys of the Khatlon region, the districts of republican subordination and the Sughd region, the air temperature will rise to +37…+42 degrees Celsius, which significantly exceeds the climatic norm for this period and is atypical for May.
The Emergency Situations Committee notes that from May 17 to 19, in certain areas of the country, including Dushanbe, the regions of republican subordination and the Khatlon region, an increase in the level of air pollution is also expected, caused by a dust storm coming from the southwest and northwest.
In this regard, the department strongly recommends that the population refrain from prolonged exposure to the open air, especially during daytime hours – from 11:00 to 16:00. Citizens are also advised to increase their water consumption, avoid heavy physical exertion and use personal respiratory protection equipment when leaving the house.
Particular attention should be paid to people with chronic cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, as well as patients with diabetes. They should carry the necessary medications and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun.
The Emergency Situations Committee calls on parents to be especially vigilant with regard to children and not to leave them unattended during periods of adverse weather conditions.
Experts remind that similar phenomena were previously recorded in the region extremely rarely and require citizens to exercise increased caution.
