By the end of June, two solar power plants will be put into operation in the highland Murghab district of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region, and a third one by the end of July. This was reported by the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources of the Republic of Tajikistan.
Solar power plants are being built as part of the “Electrification of Villages” project, aimed at providing remote and mountainous areas of the country with sustainable access to environmentally friendly electricity.
Minister of Energy and Water Resources Daler Juma got acquainted with the progress of the project in the villages of Alichur, Gulzor and Bulunkul. The power plant in Alichur will have a capacity of 2.8 megawatts and will be equipped with a 1.4 MWh battery. A 450-kilowatt station with a 220-kWh battery is being built in Gulzor. The facility in Bulunkul — 565 kilowatts with a 360-kWh battery — is scheduled to be completed by the end of July.
As noted by the ministry, the construction of the facilities is carried out taking into account the complex climatic and geographical conditions of the region. The project is important for improving the quality of life of the population and contributes to the sustainable socio-economic development of the Murghab district.
In addition, these facilities will contribute to the implementation of the goals of the national strategy to achieve energy independence in Tajikistan and expand the use of renewable energy sources.
