As a result of a massive missile strike by the Russian Armed Forces on the capital of Ukraine on June 17, the death toll in Kyiv has reached 26 people. This was reported on the Telegram channel by the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration Timur Tkachenko. Rescuers continue to clear the rubble of a destroyed nine-story residential building in the Solomensky district, where the bodies of 21 victims have already been pulled out from under the rubble.
According to Svetlana Vodolaga, a representative of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SES), 35 apartments have been destroyed, and it remains unknown how many people may still be under the rubble. Search and rescue operations are underway around the clock.
As Ukrainian Interior Minister Igor Klimenko reported earlier, on the night of June 17, Russian missiles hit 27 different objects in Kyiv, from residential buildings to critical infrastructure. At least 134 people were injured in the attacks. Fires broke out in the Solomensky, Darnytsky and Svyatoshinsky districts.
In connection with the tragedy, June 18 was declared a day of mourning in Kyiv.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, 440 drones and 32 missiles of various types were used during the attack. The main blow fell on Kyiv.
New strikes on June 18:
On the night of June 18, Russian forces launched new strikes on Ukrainian territory. According to the Ukrainian side, the Donetsk and Dnepropetrovsk regions, Zaporozhye and Kherson were attacked.
The Ukrainian Air Force stated that 58 drones were launched from the Kursk region, Primorsko-Akhtarsk, and Cape Chauda in Crimea. Of these, Ukrainian air defense managed to destroy 30. However, hits were recorded in at least nine populated areas.
In Kherson, according to local authorities, one of the drones dropped an explosive device on an ambulance. Two medical workers and a 69-year-old man were injured.
