Law enforcement officers of the Khatlon region detained three women accused of witchcraft and fortune telling as part of a preventive operation to combat superstition and fraud. This was reported by the regional Department of Internal Affairs.
According to the department, the following were detained: — Sharipova Khurinisso Latipovna, born in 1957, resident of the village of Khodjamaston, Abdurakhman Jami district; – Gulonova Surayo Abdulfatoevna, born in 1984, resident of the village of Ustokoron, Pakhtaobod jamoat, Shakhritus district; — Ergasheva Inoyathon Khaitalevna, born in 1993, resident of the village of Kumshok, Shakhritus district.

As the police officers established, the detainees had been posing as "fortune tellers" and "healers" for a long time, promising their "clients" relief from illnesses and solutions to personal problems. For their "services" they received large sums of money and other property from citizens.
"Witchcraft and fortune telling are considered fraudulent and violate the current legislation. Despite regular warnings, some citizens continue to trust false healers, putting themselves and their families at risk," the Khatlon Region Ministry of Internal Affairs said.
Administrative protocols have been drawn up against the detainees, and they have been given official warnings about the inadmissibility of repeating such actions. Preventive work in this direction will be continued, law enforcement agencies emphasized.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs reminds: in modern society, where medical and scientific achievements are at a high level, trust in false healers is not only useless, but also dangerous. Citizens are advised to refrain from turning to fortune tellers and sorcerers.
