In January-April of this year, law enforcement agencies of Kyrgyzstan registered 6,536 cases of domestic violence, which is 36% more than the same period last year. The information is published by 24.kg with reference to the Public Security Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic, Fergana.ru reports.
The agency also released a number of other statistics. Thus, in the first four months of this year, the internal affairs agencies issued 4,967 restraining orders to victims of domestic violence. Under the relevant article (Article 70 of the Code of Offenses), 1,708 reports were drawn up. As a result, 538 people were sentenced to community service, and 824 citizens were taken into custody by court order.
In addition, the following were initiated: 11 cases under Article 122 (“Murder”) of the Criminal Code of Kyrgyzstan; 10 cases under Article 130 (“Causing serious bodily harm”) of the Criminal Code; 7 cases under Article 131 (“Causing less serious bodily harm”) of the Criminal Code and 7 cases under Article 138 (“Torture”) of the Criminal Code.
Taking into account other articles of the Criminal Code, a total of 165 cases of domestic violence have been opened.
Information about incidents related to domestic violence often appears on the pages of the Kyrgyz media. For example, last week, on May 28, a case was reported that caused a wide public outcry. In the Kara-Kulja district of the Osh region, a local resident killed his wife. According to the investigation, the woman attended a ceremonial event where graduates celebrated the 20th anniversary of their graduation. The husband became jealous of his wife, the mother of his five children, as a result of which he beat her and then shot her. It is specified that a case has been opened under the article "Murder", the 40-year-old suspect has been placed in a temporary detention facility.
