An International Children's and Youth Forum dedicated to the protection of glaciers and climate change was held in Dushanbe. The event was held at the initiative of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in Tajikistan and the Committee for Youth and Sports under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Committee reported.
The forum was organized within the framework of the International High-Level Conference on Glacier Protection and brought together more than 100 young participants from Tajikistan and a number of foreign countries that are most vulnerable to the effects of climate change.
The forum discussed practical measures to protect glaciers, mitigate the effects of the climate crisis, and strengthen the role of youth in solving global environmental problems. Participants included representatives of countries where climate change has a particularly strong impact on glaciers and water resources.

As noted at the event, young people in Tajikistan are implementing a number of significant initiatives in the field of environmental protection. These include environmental clean-up days, river cleaning campaigns, mass tree planting, and information campaigns aimed at raising awareness of the consequences of climate change. In recent years, special attention has been paid to digital initiatives – the creation of videos, online campaigns and infographics on environmental topics.
An important part of the forum was educational sessions, exchange of experience, as well as direct dialogue between young participants and politicians and international experts. For the first time, the forum organized an exhibition of digital and artistic works by teenagers and young people using artificial intelligence technologies. The works reflect the perception of the climate crisis through the eyes of the younger generation and were presented in electronic format as part of a specialized online gallery.
Speaking at the opening of the forum, representatives of the Committee for Youth and Sports Affairs emphasized that the Republic is implementing a consistent policy in the field of environmental protection and sustainable development in accordance with the instructions of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, who initiated the Global Agenda for the Protection of Glaciers.
The forum organisers emphasised that the platform aims to ensure the voice of youth in climate policy and stressed the importance of their active involvement in decision-making processes at the national and international levels.
