A delegation of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population of the Republic of Tajikistan is taking part in the 78th session of the World Health Assembly in Geneva, which started on May 19 and will last until May 27, the press service of the ministry reports.

The theme of the current session is "Unity of the World for Health". Representatives of more than 200 countries are participating in the event. As part of the high-level plenary session, Deputy Minister of Health of Tajikistan Zulfiya Abdusamadzoda made a report in which she spoke about the republic's achievements in the field of healthcare, state support for the industry and active cooperation with international partners.

In her speech, Zulfiya Abdusamadzoda emphasized that consistent state policy has made it possible to increase life expectancy and significantly reduce maternal and child mortality rates. Over the past five years, the volume of healthcare funding in Tajikistan has increased 2.5 times. The country pays special attention to the fight against infectious and non-infectious diseases, which is being implemented at a high level.

The Tajik delegation also presented a report on Evidence-Informed Decision Making (EIDM). In 2024, the Ministry, with technical support from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the EPPI Centre at University College London, initiated a large-scale assessment of the evidence-based health policy ecosystem.

The study was conducted through stakeholder interviews, focus groups and analysis of over 65 health policy documents. It was noted that with the support of the European Union and WHO, Tajikistan has already conducted a systemic analysis and developed a draft Action Plan for the institutionalization of EIDM. The publication of the final recommendations and scientific article is planned for the second half of 2025. This will be an important step in the transition to evidence-based health management.

In addition, the Republic of Tajikistan was elected as a member of the General Committee of the World Health Assembly for the second time in a row, which confirms the international recognition of the country's contribution to global health.
