Seasonal restrictions on the movement of heavy trucks on public roads have been in effect in Tajikistan since May 1, 2025. The measures were introduced in accordance with the Decree of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan No. 569 of November 8, 2011, in order to prevent damage to asphalt concrete pavement in conditions of abnormal heat, the press service of the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Tajikistan reports.
Abnormal heat poses a threat to roads Since the beginning of May, unusually high temperatures have been observed in the republic: in the central regions – up to +40°C, in the southern regions, including the Khatlon region, the temperature reaches even higher values. According to weather forecasters, hot weather will continue in the regions of republican subordination, as well as in the Khatlon and Sughd regions in the coming days.
On May 17, at the Republican Conference in Dangara, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon noted that 2025 could be the warmest year in recorded history.
According to the resolution, the following measures are introduced from May 1 to August 31 each year:
On roads with asphalt concrete surfaces, at temperatures above 25°C during the daytime (from 10:00 to 20:00), the movement of vehicles with a load on a single axle of no more than 6 tons is permitted.
On other public roads not included in the list, the permissible axle load is up to 8 tons.
The restrictions apply to the following major highways:
MD01: Dushanbe – Chanak (Khujand – Buston – border with Uzbekistan);
MD02: Dushanbe – Tursunzoda – border with Uzbekistan;
MD04: Dushanbe – Kulma (via Vakhdat, Dangara, Kulyab, Khorog – border with China);
MD07: Vahdat – Rasht – Jirgital – border with Kyrgyzstan;
MD08: Guliston – Farkhar – Panj – Dusti – border with Afghanistan;
MD09: Dushanbe – Bokhtar – Nizhniy Pyanj – border with Afghanistan;
MD10: Bokhtar – Dangara;
MD11: Kizil-Kala – Dzharbuzha (via Kubodiyon – Shaartuz – Ayvaj – border with Uzbekistan);
MD13: Ayni – Penjikent – border with Uzbekistan;
MDM14: Istaravshan – Zafarabad – border with Uzbekistan;
MDM14: Kanibadam – Dekhmoy;
MD15: Istaravshan – Zafarabad – border with Uzbekistan;
MD17: Isfara – Vorukh – border with Kyrgyzstan;
MD19: Gafurov – Bulak – Pungan – border with Uzbekistan.
The restrictions do not apply to the following categories of transport: passenger transportation; transport delivering humanitarian aid; trucks with perishable goods, hazardous and oversized cargo; motor vehicles transporting coal; vehicles with special licenses for transportation.
To ensure compliance with these standards, the State Service for Supervision in the Transport Sphere of the Ministry of Transport, together with the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Tatarstan, regularly conduct raids. The goal is to prevent the movement of overloaded vehicles and preserve the road surface.
It should be noted that such seasonal restrictions are a common practice in many countries around the world, aimed at protecting roads from destruction in high temperature conditions.
Let us recall that in December 2023, the President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, in his Address to the country's Parliament emphasized: "Along with the construction and commissioning of roads, the procedure for their effective use and maintenance of constructed roads in good condition is one of the important issues."
