The administration of US President Donald Trump is ready to pay $1,000 in rewards to illegal immigrants who decide to voluntarily leave the country, the US Department of Homeland Security reported on Monday, Interfax reports.
"Self-deportation is the best, safest, and least expensive way to leave the United States without being arrested if you are in the country illegally," the department quotes Secretary of State Kristi Noem as saying.
"The Department is offering to pay for travel and pay a reward through the CBP Home mobile application for returning home. Each illegal immigrant who uses this application to self-deport, after confirming the fact of returning to their home country, receives a reward of $1,000," the press release also says.
The Associated Press notes that as part of the tightening of immigration policy, the Trump administration has radically updated the application developed under the previous head of state, Joe Biden. The U.S. Customs and Border Protection application CBP One, which provided access to various agency services for entering the country and obtaining asylum, is now called CBP Home and is designed to "help immigrants return to their homeland," the agency notes.
In recent months, the American president has introduced a series of tough measures in the fight against illegal immigration. In particular, he approved initiatives to step up the deportation of illegal immigrants from the United States. Trump declared a state of emergency on the border with Mexico shortly after his inauguration.
