During a working visit to the city of Penjikent, the Chairman of the Sughd Region, Rajabboy Akhmadzoda, got acquainted with the current state of affairs in the agricultural sector and held a visiting meeting on issues of agricultural development. This was reported by the press service of the Chairman of the Region.
According to the presented data, this year in Penjikent and rural jamoats it is planned to sow potatoes on an area of 3900 hectares. As of April 29 of this year, potatoes have already been sown on an area of more than 1200 hectares. Penjikent, as the head of the region emphasized, occupies a leading position in the agricultural sector, and local farmers have significant experience in growing potatoes and supply the domestic market with products.

During the trip, Akhmadzoda visited the Nasriddin Bobo farm in the village of Dashti Malla, Sudzhin jamoat. Here, potatoes are sown using seeds adapted to the local climate, which gives reason to expect a high yield. As the head of the region noted, the efficient use of new irrigated lands and expansion of the area of crops are important tasks of the season.
In the Mirzo Kiyomov farm in the Khalifa Hasan jamoat, potatoes have been sown on an area of 13 hectares this year. They are using seeds brought from Gornaya Matcha, which show high yields – up to 400 centners per hectare. After harvesting the potatoes, the farmers plan to move on to re-sowing – in particular, carrots.
Special attention is paid to the development of greenhouse farming in Penjikent. As noted, a resident of the Loik Sherali jamoat, Parviz Zarifzoda, organized a greenhouse on a plot of 0.14 hectares, where cucumbers, tomatoes and other vegetables are grown. More than 100 kilograms of produce are collected from the greenhouse daily, and 10 people are provided with permanent work.

Another city resident, Murodkul Yusufov, built a modern greenhouse on 1 hectare of land, equipped with automatic irrigation and plant nutrition systems. This allows for harvesting up to four times a year, reduces production costs and increases income.
In addition, in the village of Gusar, Loik Sherali Jamoat, 248 hectares of previously unused land have been developed as part of the project to provide irrigation water. Vineyards and orchards, including apple orchards, have already been planted here.

As the head of the region emphasized, all the activities being implemented are carried out in accordance with the instructions and strategic guidelines of the head of state of the nation Emomali Rahmon and are aimed at the sustainable development of agriculture and ensuring food security.
Following the visit, Akhmadzoda instructed relevant structures to intensify work on developing unused lands, improving irrigation systems, expanding crop areas and creating new orchards and vineyards.
