The Chairman of Khatlon Region Davlatali Said got acquainted with the progress of repair and restoration work in the regional public library named after Shamsiddin Shokhin. This was reported by the press service of the head of the region.
The library's renovation and reconstruction are being carried out as part of the initiative of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, who declared 2025 the Year of Reading Culture. The work is being carried out with the support of the Jurat Public Organization. The project's funding is 2.5 million somoni.
As part of the reconstruction, the library will be modernized in accordance with modern standards. Conditions for readers and employees will be improved, and the literary collection will be digitalized. Some book publications will be converted to electronic format to meet the growing demand from students and the general public.
During the visit to the site, the regional chairman instructed the responsible structures to ensure high quality of work, accelerate the pace of reconstruction and create favorable conditions for the full-fledged cultural and educational activities of the library.
Currently, there are 492 libraries in Khatlon region, including 3 regional, 25 central, 25 city and 413 rural branches, as well as 26 children's libraries. The total collection is 2,554,843 copies of books, of which 947,241 (37%) are in Tajik, 1,353,136 (53%) in Russian, and 254,466 (10%) in other languages.
The region's libraries play an important role in educating the population and popularizing national and world literature.
