More than 20 varieties of grapes are grown in the city of Istaravshan in the Sughd region, most of which are intended for export, the city's Agriculture Department reported.
As specified by the department, currently, in order to obtain a stable and high-quality harvest, an irrigation campaign is ongoing, covering 2,163 hectares of orchards and 3,651 hectares of vineyards.
Experts emphasize that timely irrigation is the most important agricultural measure, directly affecting the taste and volume of the harvest. The State Department of Land Reclamation and Irrigation "Zarinrud" of the city of Istaravshan provides farmers of all types of farms with timely access to water. Every day, 800 cubic meters of water are supplied to gardens and vineyards, as well as farmers who are members of the Association of Water Users (AOU) of the region.
Currently, the Zarinrud reservoir has accumulated approximately 20 million cubic meters of groundwater, which is used exclusively for the irrigation of orchards and vineyards in the region.
Agriculture remains one of the key sectors of the national economy of Istaravshan. The city administration and farmers are taking targeted measures to strengthen food security and improve the standard of living of the population.
