Chinese airline Chengdu Airlines began operating direct regular passenger flights on the Kashgar-Khujand-Kashgar route on July 1. This was reported by the Civil Aviation Agency under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan.
Air traffic is carried out on the basis of agreements reached between the Civil Aviation Agency of Tajikistan and the Civil Aviation Administration of the People's Republic of China. Flights will be operated once a week.
"The opening of this route is intended to expand the geography of international flights, develop the potential of the country's civil aviation and facilitate the transformation of Tajikistan into a transit aviation hub for Central Asia," the department emphasized.
Earlier, on June 16, China Southern Airlines also began operating direct flights between Dushanbe and Beijing. Thus, air traffic between Tajikistan and China continues to strengthen.
The development of aviation cooperation was one of the topics on the agenda during the state visit of the Chairman of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping to Dushanbe in July 2024. On the instructions of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, the Civil Aviation Agency was instructed to intensify work to increase the number of flights and open new destinations.
As part of these tasks, a delegation from the Civil Aviation Administration of China visited Tajikistan in March 2025. Following the visit, a number of protocols of intent were signed, one of the results of which was the opening of the Kashgar-Khujand flight.
