Tehran intends to seek compensation from the United States and Israel through UN mechanisms for recent strikes on Iranian territory, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Sunday, Interfax reports.
"We officially ask the UN Security Council to recognize the United States and the Israeli regime as the initiators of the act of aggression," Middle Eastern media quote excerpts from the minister's letter to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
According to Arakchi, this is necessary so that these countries "are held accountable, in particular by paying compensation and reparations."
The day before, Press TV reported on a farewell ceremony taking place in Tehran for commanders, nuclear scientists and civilians who fell victim to Israeli strikes during the 12-day conflict between Iran and Israel.
On June 22, the United States attacked three nuclear facilities in Iran: Fordow, Isfahan, and Natanz. This was preceded by military action by Israel against the country, the declared goal of which was to destroy Iran's nuclear program. Subsequently, US President Donald Trump declared a ceasefire, which Iran and Israel agreed to. The ceasefire is still being observed.
