From September 28 to October 8, 2025, Azerbaijan will host the III CIS Games – a large-scale multi-sport event where 246 sets of medals in 23 disciplines will be contested, the press service of the CIS Executive Committee reports.
The tournament will cover 12 sports grounds in seven cities at once: Ganja, Yevlakh, Mingachevir, Gabala, Sheki, Goygol and Khankendi.
According to the information from the competition's organizing committee, preparations are proceeding according to plan: a working group has been created, a volunteer program has been formed, sports operations and necessary security plans have been developed, and arenas and sports complexes have been adapted to official regulations.
Of all the disciplines, swimming will be the leader in terms of the number of awards – 40 sets of medals, including relays and individual races. This will emphasize the importance of this discipline in the structure of the Games.
Team sports such as football, volleyball, 3×3 basketball and chovgan (a traditional horse game) will announce MVPs – the most valuable participants. These awards are a great way to raise the profile of the Games by focusing not only on results but also on individual skill.
Athletes and official delegations from the CIS countries, as well as invited teams, are expected to participate. This will create an international atmosphere necessary for the development of regional sports and exchange of experience.
