The Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population of Tajikistan is strengthening measures to prevent and control healthcare-associated infections (HAI) in healthcare and social institutions. This was reported by the press service of the department following a meeting held in Dushanbe.
Particular attention is paid to maternity wards of central and district hospitals, as well as reproductive health centers in cities and districts of the Khatlon region, where the risk of nosocomial infection is traditionally considered high.
According to the head of the Department of Sanitary and Epidemiological Safety, Emergencies and Emergency Medical Care, Said Davlatzoda, compliance with sanitary standards and the use of national clinical recommendations can significantly reduce the level of infection.
“Research shows that proper organization of infection control can reduce mortality and morbidity rates by more than half, and the resistance of microorganisms to antibiotics by up to 40%,” said Davlatzoda.
He noted that most infections that occur during the provision of health care can be prevented if hygiene standards, epidemiological requirements and regular monitoring are observed.
During the meeting, issues of training medical personnel in infection control methods, regular disinfection, improving patient safety culture and the availability of protective equipment were also discussed.
Monitoring the implementation of these measures will be entrusted to regional departments of the Ministry of Health, as well as specialized sanitary and epidemiological services.
