On Wednesday, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, ceremonially opened the Sebzor hydroelectric power station, located in the Roshtkala district of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region. This was reported by the press service of the head of state.
The new hydroelectric power station, built with private sector participation and foreign investment, consists of three units with a total installed capacity of 11 megawatts. The plant is expected to produce over 77.6 million kilowatt-hours of clean electricity annually.
“The Sebzor hydroelectric power station is of strategic importance for the entire region and will provide reliable electricity supply to about 220 thousand people, contributing to the acceleration of socio-economic development,” Emomali Rahmon noted during the opening ceremony.
The head of state emphasized that the project's implementation is part of the state policy within the framework of the "Green Economy Development Strategy for 2023-2037". According to him, the construction of such facilities contributes not only to the country's energy independence, but also to the fight against the effects of climate change.
The station is equipped with modern technologies that ensure minimal impact on the environment. Generation is controlled through the 110-kilovolt Sebzor substation, and energy is supplied to the region's unified power grid via an 18-kilometer transmission line to the city of Khorog.
The laying of the foundation of the facility took place on July 29, 2015 with the participation of the Leader of the Nation. Over the years of construction, up to 600 specialists were involved at the facility, mainly from among the local population. With the commissioning of the station, 20 people were employed on a permanent basis.
The Tajik authorities note that the commissioning of the Sebzor hydroelectric power station will increase the volume of electricity generation in GBAO by 25%, as well as strengthen energy security and allow, in the future, to export part of the energy produced.
