The armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran launched missile strikes on the largest American military base, Al-Udeid, located in the State of Qatar. As reported by Reuters, citing Iranian and international sources, the operation was named "News of Victory".
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) described the base as a "strategic asset of the United States in the Persian Gulf region." Iran's Supreme National Security Council confirmed the strike.
According to CNN, the attack was accompanied by the launch of six missiles aimed at American military facilities in Qatar. In Doha, at the time of the attack, the air defense system was activated, which, as reported by the representative of the Qatari Foreign Ministry Majid bin Mohammed al-Ansari, successfully repelled the attack and intercepted the launched missiles. Explosions caused by the air defense were observed over the capital.
Qatari authorities said the incident "does not pose a threat to state security" but stressed that they "reserve the right to take retaliatory measures."
The US Department of Defense confirmed the attack on the American base. A White House spokesman said the administration was not seeking further escalation of the conflict. US President Donald Trump held an emergency meeting with the military's top commanders.
Meanwhile, the staff of the American embassies in Qatar and Bahrain have been put on high alert – "duck and cover". An air raid alert has been declared in the Kingdom of Bahrain, and residents have been advised to remain calm and seek shelter in safe places.
Saudi Arabia has strongly condemned Iran's actions, calling the attack "unjustified aggression," and expressed full support for the American side.
The situation in the region remains tense.
