Athletes from the Tajikistan national team achieved unprecedented success at the 2025 World Judo Championships, taking seventh place in the overall medal count among 93 participating countries. The tournament was held from June 13 to 19 in the capital of Hungary, Budapest.
According to the Tajikistan Judo Federation, the national team includes nine athletes: Mehrzod Sufiyev (up to 60 kg), Emomali Nurali and Obid Jebov (both up to 66 kg), Abubakr Sherov and Behruz Khodjazoda (up to 73 kg), Somon Makhmadbekov (up to 81 kg), Jakhongir Majidov and Karomatullo Khakimov (up to 100 kg), and Temur Rakhimov (over 100 kg).
Following the competition, Tajik judokas won three medals:
– Emomali Nurali won a silver medal in the 66 kg weight category,
— Obid Dzhebov won bronze in the same weight category,
— Temur Rakhimov won the bronze medal in the over 100 kg weight class.
This result became the most successful performance in the history of Tajik judo at the world championships. Until this moment, since gaining independence, the Tajikistan team had only two bronze medals – they were won by Rasul Bokiev in 2007 and Somon Makhmadbekov in 2024.
The championship was attended by 556 athletes (294 men and 262 women) from 93 countries. The high level of training and sportsmanship of the Tajik team allowed the country to enter the top ten teams in the world for the first time at the main international judo tournament.
The Judo Federation of Tajikistan expressed gratitude to the athletes and coaching staff for their dedicated work and worthy representation of the country on the world stage.
