On June 19, the XXXIII meeting of the Council of Heads of State Information Agencies of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS Information Council) was held in St. Petersburg on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), the press service of the Organization’s Executive Committee reported.
The meeting was attended by members of the CIS Information Council – heads of state information agencies of Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan. The head of the state information agency of Uzbekistan and a representative of the CIS Executive Committee also took part in the meeting.
The participants of the meeting exchanged experience of interaction within the framework of events to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War and discussed areas for further development of professional cooperation, as well as shared experience of covering events dedicated to the common Victory, and spoke about real projects. At the same time, it was noted that the anniversary of Victory continues and that the global theme of the historical legacy of the feat of the victors over fascism in 1945 remains inexhaustible.
The meeting of the Information Council considered issues of cooperation in information support of international events in the Commonwealth, including the III CIS Games to be held in Azerbaijan this autumn and the 35th anniversary of the Commonwealth next year. The participants discussed cultural and humanitarian cooperation in the CIS countries, tourism development programs in the Commonwealth countries and projects to expand ties in the field of culture, science and youth exchanges, the role of state media in promoting projects to create innovative cities in the CIS countries, cooperation within the framework of journalistic exchanges and courses for improving professional qualifications.
About the Information Council
Formed in 1995, the CIS Information Council is headed by TASS Director General Andrei Kondrashov. The council includes the heads of state news services of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia and Tajikistan. In its activities, the CIS Information Council pays special attention to ensuring interaction and cooperation of the CIS countries in the information sphere, creating favorable conditions for the unimpeded dissemination of information and effective exchange of professional experience, as well as for the stability of media partnerships.
