In the Khatlon region of the Republic of Tajikistan, the activities of a transnational organized crime group engaged in the smuggling of drugs on an especially large scale have been stopped. This was reported by the press service of the State Committee for National Security (SCNS) of the Republic of Tajikistan.
As a result of successfully conducted operational and investigative activities, employees of the State Committee for National Security of the Khatlon Region detained two active participants in the criminal network:
– Khikmatov Firuza Bakhodurovich, born in 1997, resident of the city of Bokhtar,
– Khusainzoda Abdullo Khusain, born in 1988, resident of the Jaykhun district.
They were detained in the city of Bokhtar on Mirzo Tursunzoda Street. During the search of their temporary residence, more than 102 kilograms of various narcotic and psychotropic substances were found and confiscated, including hashish, opium, methamphetamine and methadone. The prohibited substances were packaged in five plastic bags and carefully hidden in a hiding place.
It has been established that the third member of the said drug group is Zokirov Azam Iskandarovich, born in 1990, a resident of the city of Bokhtar. He is currently in the United States as a migrant and has been placed on the international wanted list.
According to the conclusion of experts from the Drug Control Agency under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan in Khatlon region, the confiscated amount of narcotic substances could cause addiction in more than a million people.
Based on this fact, the Investigative Department of the State Committee for National Security has opened a criminal case under Part 4 of Article 200, paragraphs “a” and “d” of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Tajikistan (drug smuggling as part of an organized group on an especially large scale).
Following the completion of the preliminary investigation, Khikmatov and Khusainzoda were found guilty and sentenced by the Khatlon Regional Court to 20 years in prison each.
The State Committee for National Security of Tajikistan emphasizes the importance of public participation and patriotic responsibility of citizens in the fight against the drug threat. Only through joint efforts can we ensure the security of the country, the protection of youth and the sustainable development of society.
