A new public holiday and day off may appear in Kazakhstan. This is stated in the response of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population to a deputy's inquiry, Tengrinews.kz reports.
Earlier, Majilis deputy Kenzhegul Seitzhan proposed giving June 1, Children's Day, the status of a national holiday.
"Children are a strategic resource and the foundation of the country's future. Creating conditions for their safe, healthy and comprehensive development should be a key priority of state policy. In this context, the introduction of the practice of celebrating Children's Day at the state level is of particular importance," Kenzhegul said.
The deputy also proposed introducing new rules for weekends in Kazakhstan. In particular, Seitzhan believes it is necessary to approve a schedule for postponing weekends for two years in advance. For example, this year it would be possible to approve postponing weekends until the end of 2027. According to the deputy, this will allow businesses to make long-term plans, and Kazakhstanis to plan vacations and family events in advance.
The Ministry of Labor and Social Protection responded to the deputy's request. They did not support the idea of approving the schedule of transferring days off for two years ahead.
"The transfer of days off is carried out in advance for the upcoming calendar year, taking into account the coincidence of working and holiday days, as well as depending on the economic, political or sanitary-epidemiological situation in the country, determined individually in each period. Based on this, we consider the current procedure for transferring days off to other working days to be optimal," says the response signed by the Minister of Labor and Social Protection of the Population Svetlana Zhakupova.
However, the ministry agreed with the proposal to give June 1 the status of a national holiday.
"This holiday provides parents and children with the opportunity to spend time together, participate in cultural, educational and social events. This helps to create a favorable psycho-emotional state in the child and a feeling of complete safety next to the family. Based on the above, and also taking into account the goals of strengthening the institution of family and family values in our country, we consider it possible to establish June 1 as a national holiday – Children's Day," the ministry reported.
