The US dollar exchange rate against the Tajik somoni fell by 9.09% from January to May 2025, the National Bank of Tajikistan reported.
According to the regulator, if on December 31, 2024, the dollar was trading at 10.9325 somoni, then by the end of May 2025, its rate dropped to 9.9392 somoni. For comparison, for the same period last year, the decline was only 1.79%.
The NBT noted that the main trend of stabilization of the national currency exchange rate against the dollar was observed in April and May. Among the external factors of strengthening the somoni, the increase in the volume of foreign currency inflows from abroad, the geopolitical and economic situation in the world, changes in the policy of the central banks of leading countries, as well as fluctuations in the ruble to dollar exchange rate were named.
The internal reasons for the strengthening of the somoni were the decrease in demand for foreign currency on the domestic market from individuals and legal entities, as well as the effective satisfaction of this demand by the banking system.
The National Bank emphasized that the seasonal nature of internal and external factors contributes to the stability of the somoni exchange rate at the moment.
