Results of the project on protecting the health of mothers and children were discussed in Dushanbe

The next meeting of the Interdepartmental Steering Committee for the implementation of the project “Comprehensive Services for Mothers and Children” was held in the Government House of the Republic of Tajikistan under the chairmanship of Deputy Prime Minister Dilrabo Saidullo Mansuri.

As reported by the Government press service, the meeting was attended by representatives of ministries, departments, international organizations and executive authorities of the pilot districts. The agenda included an analysis of the results of the project implementation in the first half of 2025, as well as defining tasks for the near future.

The project, implemented in partnership with the Asian Development Bank, covers the pilot districts of Rasht, Faizabad and Shamsiddin Shokhin. According to the report of the project manager Isfandiyor Makhmudzoda, at present, construction and reconstruction works in Rasht and Faizabad districts have been fully completed, in Shamsiddin Shokhin district – by 98 percent.

In 2024, an agreement on additional financing for the project was signed between the Government of Tajikistan and the Asian Development Bank. As part of the project expansion, implementation began in new pilot areas: Dangara, Darvoz and Ayni. The total project budget is US$30 million, and the work is scheduled to be completed by March 30, 2029.

The project's construction engineer Abdurakhim Shoyev reported on the progress of construction work in the new districts. In particular, an 80-bed maternity ward will be built in Dangara, a 100-bed central hospital in Darvoz, and a 40-bed maternity hospital in Ayni.

UNICEF specialist Saidali Kodirov reported that the project provided training to 356 health workers, 63 percent of whom were women. By improving the quality of services and population coverage, it was possible to significantly reduce the rate of home births, increase the registration of pregnancies and raise women's awareness of the signs of complications.

Deputy Prime Minister Dilrabo Mansouri expressed satisfaction with the results achieved in the pilot areas and instructed to ensure high quality implementation of the project in new regions.

At the end of the meeting, the participants discussed existing problems, developed proposals for their solution, and made decisions aimed at the effective implementation of the project “Comprehensive Services for Mothers and Children” at all its stages.
