The launch ceremony of the second stage of seismic exploration works within the framework of the Bokhtar project was held in the city of Levakant in the Khatlon region. The event was attended by the Chairman of the Khatlon region Davlatali Said, as well as representatives of the Chinese companies CNPC International and BGP Inc. This was reported by the press service of the chairman of the region.
The event showcased the equipment and technological resources used by Chinese companies in the project. The results of previously conducted geophysical studies and plans for further development of the region's oil and gas potential were also presented.
As the chairman of the region Davlatali Said noted, the first stage of the Bokhtar project was launched in 2008. Within its framework, regional exploration, magnetometric and seismic exploration work was completed, for the implementation of which over 110 million US dollars were allocated.
Since 2024, CNPC International has begun geophysical surveys, including magnetometric and gravimetric studies, over an area of more than 15.4 thousand km². The investment volume at this stage amounted to $7.4 million.
According to experts, the implementation of the project will help identify areas with industrial reserves of oil and gas and outline areas for subsequent drilling of exploratory wells.
The second phase of the project plans to conduct seismic exploration work in 25 cities and districts of the Khatlon region. To date, more than 500 local residents have been involved in seasonal work, and in the future the number of employees will be increased to 900 people.
Khatlon region has significant hydrocarbon reserves, and the effective use of this potential will be a serious contribution to the development of the country's economy and ensuring its energy security, said Davlatali Said, expressing gratitude to Chinese partners for fruitful cooperation.
At the end of the event, the parties confirmed their intention to expand cooperation and attract new investments in the industrial development of mineral resources, as well as to support the course towards accelerated industrialization of the country.
