In the Vakhsh district of the Khatlon region of the Republic of Tajikistan, a 16-year-old teenager drowned in an accident in the Stalin Canal. The body was found six days after the tragedy, the press center of the Committee for Emergency Situations and Civil Defense under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan reported.
The incident occurred on June 3 in the village of Safeddasht. According to eyewitnesses, the teenager disappeared under water at about 2:30 p.m. while swimming in a canal. On the same day, employees of the Special Rapid Response Unit of the Emergency Situations Committee in Khatlon Region were sent to the scene.
Professional divers were involved in the search and rescue operations, a rubber motor boat, a CHASING M2 PRO MAX underwater camera and other modern diving equipment were used. The rescue operation lasted several days.
As specified by the department, the teenager's body was found on June 9 at 15:02 approximately 500-550 meters downstream from the scene of the incident. After the necessary procedures were carried out, the body was handed over to relatives for burial.
In connection with the incident, the Emergency Situations Committee once again appealed to parents and residents of the republic to take precautions when near bodies of water, especially in the summer. The agency emphasizes that swimming in fast and deep waters, such as the Stalin Canal, poses a serious danger, especially for children and people who cannot swim.
"The safety of your loved ones is in your hands," the Committee said in a statement.
